Carolyn Peters, PhD, ATC, NREMT
Carolyn Peters is a professor, Certified Athletic Trainer, and Nationally Registered EMT with extensive experience in sports medicine, athletic injury management, and endurance event medical care. She combines evidence-based education with practical field experience to prepare providers for the unique challenges of race-day medicine.

Course Description

Race Ready EMS is an interactive 4-hour course designed for EMTs, EMRs, nursing students, athletic trainers, and healthcare providers interested in providing medical care at races, cycling events, endurance competitions, and community sporting events.

This course blends evidence-based sports medicine with real-world event EMS experience. 

Participants will learn how to confidently recognize, assess, and manage the medical conditions most commonly encountered at endurance events while developing the critical decision-making skills needed in the field.

Topics Include:

• Event medical operations and aid station workflow
• Heat illness, dehydration, hyponatremia, and athlete collapse
• Sports injury assessment and treatment
• Cardiac, respiratory, and other life-threatening emergencies
• Patient triage, documentation, and transport decisions
• Working alongside race officials and event staff
• Real-world case studies and practical application
